One thing that definitely caught my eye in the news this week was regarding President Obama's intent to provide aid money to family planning agencies in Africa, particularly Kenya. I honestly think that this is a great idea and deserves to be discussed because there are so many issues that we can help out with in Africa with just a little bit of money. This would help with world hunger, overpopulation, AIDS and other STI's/STD's, as well as other problems. I remember reading an article in my Winter class about the huge amounts of gang-rapes and sexual crimes that are being committed in Africa, and this would be such an amazing way to help. It is crucial to show that we do not agree with what is occurring and we are trying to do our part to stop it. The only issue I see with this initiative is since our country is in such a depression and economic crisis, where will we be able to get this money for aid?
When it comes to which news value this story would be considered under, I would definitely say it would be impact. Putting this plan into effect would impact not only the people in Africa who need to have abortions, but also American citizens. We would probably have to pay more tax money and this would be coming out of our pocket, I'm sure. Introduction
Hey everyone! My name is Jenny Frank and I am a 20 year old junior here at SJSU. My major is actually social work (not related to journalism at all), but I have always had an interest in this subject. I was born and raised in a small town outside of Salem, Oregon. San Jose is definitely a big change from my town, but I love the busy city atmosphere!
Well let's see...I love to play and watch sports. My favorite professional team is the Dallas Cowboys (I know, I know), and I enjoy playing soccer, tennis, flag football, well basically any sport. I am very involved on campus at SJSU because of my participation in a panhellenic sorority, Alpha Omicron Pi. It is an awesome experience and I'm so glad to be a part of it!
I'm very excited for this class and learning more about the aspects of media. I wrote a little bit for the school newspaper in middle and high school, mainly funny little poems or short stories. I really enjoy writing with humor and wit, but I'm excited for the new skills this class will bring me!
